The building was originally opened as a hotel in 1927 and was "the place to be" on the East Coast, as Krause describes. It was where big bands would play and celebrities and politicians vacationed. He told us the story of how F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote pieces of The Great Gatsby as he vacationed with his family.
